Monday Blues

I thought I'd share some stuff I ALREADY HAD (or at least got prior to this weekend when I swore up and down I wasn't going to buy any stuff).

Atomic chip and dip set for my upcoming soiree for George and Jane Jetson:

Lazy Susan crudite/dip set purchased weeks ago at the flea market from my fabulous new friend who lives not too far from me and whose name I completely forgot.  I was almost MORTALLY EMBARRASSED when I saw her and her wonderful husband this weekend and she said, "Oh!  It's Vintage Christine!"  This lovely lady reads my blog and I don't even have enough brain cells to recall her name, so I'm hoping that by flattering her all over this paragraph she'll first-name-identify herself down there in the Comments section . . .

My favorite china pattern in all the world:  Royal China's "Blue Heaven".

My second favorite pattern in all the world:   Marcrest's "Swiss Alpine".

You guys are missing the boat is you're not grabbing old Glasbake--it's just as old as Pyrex and Fire-King and usually a bunch cheaper (just remember that if it has a "J" next to the logo and/or says it's microwaveable it's newer).  This baker is called "Cameo" and it's a beautiful shade of blue.  It took a great deal of scrubbing to remove decades of baked-on grime (photo was taken midway into the cleaning process as my fingers were cramping up and I needed to take a break since I was THIS CLOSE to losing my patience and tossing the dirty little thing out the window) but it was totally worth the effort.  Plus, had I actually thrown it out the window there would have been hell to pay since the window was closed and major breakage would have occurred.

The shape of this creamer is sinuous.  Anyone recognize the pattern (no marks on the bottom)?

Beautiful vintage pin!

I had previously purchased the earrings in the photo at TJ Maxx for a nice low TJ Maxx price.  I'm not sure if the turquoise is reconstituted but that's real pearl and definitely real sterling (well, as real as silver marked .925 can be).  Seeing as how I was desperately looking for things to do around the house this weekend to keep me away from the garage/yard/thrift sales, I dug into my huge stock of beads and found beads to perfectly match with the earrings!  Ain't it purty?

A note on the condo: we may have problems.  I am a bit depressed so I MAY need to go shopping.  Just wanted to warn you.

P.S.  A few of you readers may have noticed that when I mentioned I saw the lovely lady who sold me the Lazy Susan I said "this weekend."  Don't worry.  You're just hallucinating.  If you WEREN'T hallucinating you'd know that the words "this weekend" are actually "last year".  Just get yourself some thorazine and you'll be fine . . .

  1. I don't even collect this stuff (I mean, These Things)and I think that creamer is gorgeous! The casserole with the grecian ladies is very nice, too..........I've never even seen that pattern - ever. About that new tidal wave public bathroom you photographed on Sunday - is that even LEGAL??? Surely, they'll have to have an elevator? (For when there are no tidal waves, of course!)

Something about that creamer really makes me happy.

Those are my 2 favorite patterns as well. I've compromised to only collect blue china from now on.

  8. A George and Judy Jetson Party?!?
Fabulous! I think the pitcher is the Boutonniere patern by Taylor Smith Taylor.

Remember I promised you something horsey about 6 months ago? Well, the item in question has actually made it into an appropriate shipping box. It may take another 6 months to get it to the post office. I'm just sayin'.

  10. I'm drooling all over that chip and dip set. Good thing I'm not seeing it in person! And sinuous is the perfect word to describe that creamer. Also, if you need to go shopping, I won't tell a soul. I totally understand how a little thrifting is good mental therapy!

  11. I do recognize that creamer (gravy boat?), but can't tell you anything at all about it. I saw a similar piece recently at Goodwill (chipped).

I often come across pieces of both of those dishes too. Never a whole set, just one or two.

Love that lazy susan dip set!

Seeing that jewelry makes me wish I still had more of my mothers rhinestone stuff. *sigh*

  12. I had to get a paper sack. Just looking at your vintage dishes sent me into fits of hyperventilation. I may hate to cook, but I love dishes and your goodies are to die for. I, too, love Fire King, Pyrex and Glasbake. My morning coffee is perfection when I drink it out of a Fire King cup!

  15. So now I will have to devote the next 5 months of my life hunting down that chip and dip bowl and an entire blue heaven set of dishes. I certainly can't be expected to live without them in my life! It's ok- I wasn't doing much with myself anyway.
