I Hate Mike and Frank and Danielle

Once again, after I said I wasn't going to, I watched "American Pickers" last night.

Even though this one is pretty darn cute, I hate him:

I don't care how cuddly HE is, I hate him too:

And while she has totally awesome eyebrows, I hate her as well:

Now, as far as these people are concerned, they could CARE LESS what some geriatric nut job in Mississippi thinks about them, and to tell you the truth I don't actually HATE them.  I'm just so green with envy that it kinda hurts.  They drive around in a nice van, walk up to people's houses and get invited into their sheds and barns to look over absolutely incredible amounts of antiques AND THEN THEY BUY STUFF with what seems to be an unlimited amount of money!  And then this Darlene person back at HQ in freakin' IOWA for pete's sake finds OTHER places for them to go, as well!

You will have to pardon the rampant capitalization of words and the overabundance of exclamation marks but as you can tell, I'm HOT about this show!  And of course, being in the business of finding and reselling junk, of course everyone I meet always asks, "Oh, you must love that show 'American Pickers', huh?"

NO, GOLDANG IT, I HATE AMERICAN PICKERS!!!!!

Imagine my delight, then, when I found this video.  Apparently there are still some people left out there who don't take kindly to complete strangers banging on their door and asking if they'll sell their family heirlooms.

It's on tonight, dammit.  The History Channel.  Eight o'clock Central.  I'm doomed.

  2. I don't like that show because I think they pay too much for a lot of the stuff, and it makes other people up their prices and then it gets passed along to ME, the consumer who buys junk for my own pleasure.

  3. So I guess my plan of you, me and a big van is out, huh?

I'd love to know where they got their initial outlay of $$ to start roaming the countryside.

  4. They're cute and they find great junk. Yeah, I definitely hate them too! I think they need a girl riding along in that van though. Just give me one day. One Day!

  6. Well good thing I am the only american left that does not have cable tv... Yet lol~~~

I once read a scathing article in an antiques magazine about the show Antiques Roadshow, and now every Mom and Pop thinks their junk is worth a lot of money, and antique dealers are screwed by the whole thing.

Meh, I've also heard dealers in the back of antique shops laughing about how they "ripped off granny" for some fine antiques at pennies on the dollar, so...

What the hell was my point?! lol...

  8. You're hilarious! I just learned that Mike lives here on the outskirts of town and that he and Frank are opening one of their shops here. Even though I also am jealous, I have kind of a Mike crush.

  9. I must admit to having very mixed feelings about this show. I enjoy the hunt and think they do find lots of cool stuff, but somehow I am not in love with the show. To much 'guy' stuff I guess.

  11. Hilarious! You know I walked into a neighbors garage as she was getting ready for a garage sale the next day and I swear I thought she was going for a gun! I wouldn't recommend sneaking up on people. She did however let me loot around after a nice chat :)

  12. Did you see the episode where they went to this young couple's Victorian farm house that had been owned by an opera diva and left untouched after she died and that said young couple just bought it and walked into all those incredible antiques? I was dehydrated from drooling so much!! Where do people find those kinds of houses, I want to know! Yes, Pickers is hard to watch, but like a train wreck hard to pull my eyes away. Pul-lease, some one pay me butt loads of money to go through other peoples junk!

  13. But...but. It's a REALITY show. You mean it might not be REAL. That there are producers and directors and someone finding these places for Mike and Frank... not just Danielle. Oh no!! I don't want to hear this. I want to be with them and crawl through the old barns. I want to be there when they make a deal and shake hands. Even when I tell myself that they have help and don't do it all themselves, I still want to drive to Iowa and go with them. I love this show....
    I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

  14. I understand...I feel the same way about PBS' History Detectives. I would do anything to be in that position....and some days, I think I could do better! It makes me green with envy to watch them at work....

  15. You better watch out Christine or there will be bloggers out there saying the same thing about that good looking b%$#&* over at I.N.O.I.V. who finds all that cool stuff and keeps some and sells some and then goes down to that cool condo in Florida.....oh who are we kidding? Let's just start our own damn tv show.

  18. Dang it! I thought I had really stumbled onto a real "I hate this show" site. I enjoy the items they find but I can hardly stomach the two of them with their fake banter. And then to pay to much for something and then brag about tripling their money on the same item is too corny. Whole thing is a joke in my opinion.
