My Kind of Easter Cards, Part One

Found in the Card Department at Target in Slidell Louisiana.  Not exactly your hotbed of underground humor.  OK now wait--YOU might not think these aren't underground humor but this is Holier Than Thou-land big-time--the land of A Baptist Church On Every Corner, Jimmy Swaggart, David Duke and David Vitter, and blue laws.  Thank gawd for New Orleans or we'd all shrivel up into little tight-assed narrow-minded prunepeople.

When I started reading the next cards I actually laughed right out loud, both because I thought they were hilarious but also because they're borderline sacrilege.  But if you look on the back, you see this (there's a little more but I didn't feel like copying the whole thing):

INHERIT THE MIRTH
The son of a seventh-generation minister, Canadian-born Cuyler Black began cartooning at an early age . . . eventually he moved to the U.S. to serve as a full-time youth minister in Connecticut.  One of his favorite verses is from Genesis 2:16: "God has brought me laughter."

When I showed the  next one to hubs, he laughed hard enough to spit out his mouthful of Jim Beam and Diet 7-UP.

Today is Good Friday.  Be good, y'all!

  3. I love off the wall humor, I'm warped, I know. Been to or past Slidell many times on my way to Mississippi. One of my favorite places to eat in Louisiana is Mittendorfs over in Manshack for catfish. Can't get any better than that! We look forward to that every year! Happy Easter!

    Tee hee hee!!!

You'd be surprised how many puckered people are still out here in southern CA. My neighbors turn their noses up at me (why, I have no clue). They don't seem very happy folks. Maybe it's because I talk nice to my cats when I am out back and all I hear is them yelling at their two-legged kids? Oy!

As for being good because it's Good Friday? HA!!

Hope yours is a wild one. =D

  5. I'm smiling as I read this, thinking about the time we drove through Slidell, I think I remember seeing a sign that said the home of Jimmy Swaggert, Jerry Lee Lewis and Micky Gilley. I remember seeing Jerry Lee in concert and he said "if I die please don't let Jimmy preach my funeral." I have 3 cousins who are preachers...now do I want them to preach my funeral?

  7. You got a snort from me! Love those religious cards. My God has an excellent sense of humor and forgives those of us with our minds in the gutter! I really need a bath!
