Vintage This & That

Every time I promise that I'm going to start back to regular blogging, something happens and now I see it's been a month since I last posted.  I did have my computer in the shop for a tuneup but that was only for a week and this time around I didn't go through traumatic withdrawal like in the past.

I went to THE BEST estate sale recently in the Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson, MS.  Once I discovered that this was where Kathryn Stockett's grandparents had a home and that she lived with them when she was young, I decided to get a hotel room so I wouldn't have to get up before dawn and drive two hours to Jackson.  I was 4th in line and managed to grab every single thing I wanted--the woman who runs these estate sales, Regina, is great and TOTALLY fair about not showing favoritism to dealers and regulars.  Of course, while I'd certainly appreciate it if she didn't have that policy and showered favoritism down on yours truly, at least I know she's not showering it on someone else!  So I just ran from room to room grabbing clothing and Fenton glass and . . . well, here are some of the things I got, and these were things (other than the Beany & Cecil game board) I hadn't even planned on grabbing.

The game didn't come with the balls but really, it's the graphics and the memories of watching that show that sold me.

I have a couple treasure boxes/caskets in this style and while I have a similar lipstick holder, this one has a lovely mirror, too.

Sweet Lefton China vanity ring dish.

And don't you love the two "Daddy" books on my banner--one is a Little Golden Book and the other is a Miss Francis/Ding Dong School Book.  Sadly, this will be the first time in my many years that I wasn't able to send a Father's Day card to Dad.

I'm about to do something crazy, y'all, and as soon as I get permission to add a link to a certain event, I'll fill you in on my craziness.  Hint:  Alameda Point Vintage Fashion Faire . . .

  2. Beany and Cecil!! I have the Match It game with them on it!!

And I want the "My Daddy is a Policeman" book, cuz my daddy was one!

This will be Year Five for me not sending Father's Day cards. It sucks.

You better spring the news soon, baby. And darlin', Alameda is about an hour and a half from me. If we don't find a way to get together, it will be a damned shame.

  3. Wow isn't it great when you're first or almost first into a deceased estate (as we call them here, no beating around the bush-sic-in Australia, LOL!) I want to hear all about this fashion fair young lady, you KNOW I DO!!!
