Two Lucky Weiners

The VintageChristine $100 gift card giveaway winner is:

I loved her comment although it in no way influenced the extremely scientific and impartial way the winners were chosen--I wrote down each person's name (twice, if they were a follower), cut each one out exactly the same size, shuffled them around, threw them up in the air, gathered them all back up, closed my eyes, counted to 10, farted took a deep breath and grabbed the $100 winner.  Then I did the same thing (without farting taking a deep breath this time but I think I may have burped or something) and the $50 winner was chosen.  Alfred Einstein and the entire world scientific community would've nodded sagely like scientists always do and said, "Yes, we, the world scientific community, agree that VintageChristine is one honest picker."  On the $100 winner card, I used a photo of one of my many vintage clocks (and I just noticed how dirty it is, but it's vintage dirt so that's ok) and worded it my own creative self.

If I was the lucky winner of a gift card, I would buy something vintage and atomic for my new 1954 cottage that we move into in 18 days! We need a lot of stuff as it is our first home. I would really like a vintage pink shower curtain, some barkcoth curtains, or new kitchen curtains. I also want a whole livingroom full of Hey-wake, so, yeah, there is a lot of stuff I would gladly spend my money on! ha ha ha. I am one of your followers, so I get two entries! Yippy! Thats a little closer to winning!"

The $50 card had a stock eBay front but I added my personal wishes.  And of course the images used on the cards was me me me (and don't you just adore those little deer bookends to death?!).

I truly want to thank everyone for your wonderful comments and I just wish I could've helped everyone make their eBay dreams come true.  Stay tuned for more giveaways featuring more gift cards AND more cute little thingies for your cute little homes and apartments.

Speaking of eBay--I've recently encountered the nasty practice of "sniping" and it does NOT make me happy.  Apparently it's perfectly legal but it is sooooo unfair!  I was bidding on several pieces of Weller Pottery offered by the same Seller--he started the auctions off at 99 cents and they lasted about a week.  Prices were good (for the Buyers, anyway) and I actually thought I was going to get some great deals UNTIL THE LAST FREAKING MINUTE!  After the same Buyer won 3 separate auctions I realized I was getting "sniped" and sent a message to the Seller about it, knowing there's nothing he could do about it but just wanted to vent my frustration.  Turns out he was pretty frustrated, too, and won't start the auctions out at 99 cents again.  The Buyer who was sniping was a large purchaser on eBay and was probably a dealer and was PROBABLY going to resell the pieces at much higher prices.  Weller Pottery goes for incredibly ridiculously high amounts when they list it at Buy It Now prices.  I guess that in order to compete with the snipers I'll have to become a sniper as well, but I really don't want to do that.  I think sniping is what has caused Sellers to start their auctions at higher starting points even though I think they have to pay more to eBay.  Starting off high also makes it more likely that no one is going to bid on your item.  Well, at least you won't get sniped!

Word to the wise: if you haven't gotten the eBay app on your mobile phone DO NOT GET IT.  It makes it waaaaaay too easy to buy stuff.  I mean, that's what I've heard.  Not that I know anything about that personally.  Really.  I'm not kidding.

Thanks again, everyone!!!!!

Oh and P.S. to Miss Dollie DeVille and Atomic Mama: please email your name and address to chris.1950@hotmail.com so I can send those gift cards out pronto!

  1. The contest was RIGGED!!! :)

I snipe all the time. I use a service to do it. I'm evil that way.

    Congratulations to the winners!!

  2. Whoo hoo congrats to the weeners lol~~ =D

Uh oh, Christine, *I* am an eBay sniper!!

It's how you sneak in and *wham* grab something from under an unsuspecting nose of the casual bidder. It's how 1950's Atomic Ranch House lady can buy so many things at such great deals. It's feigning NO interest, then *blammo* you grab that awesome atomic whatever for $25 instead of $45.

I learned the hard way when I lost an ever-so-rare Sputnik music box to a bidder over a last minute bidding war, and I swore I would never do that again. =(

    Please forgive a sniper.

    Love,

    1950's Atomic Ranch House....

  4. What the hell is sniping? Oh and by the way, the ladies said they really don't want those gift cards. They would just feel too guilty taking money from little ol' you so I guess I'll take them off their hands, with much guilt of course....

  10. When I saw my name, I said "OH MY GOD!" really loud in front of my whole office....so worth it! I am soooooo excited that I am jumping up and down and bouncing off the walls! Yippy! So now is the hard part.....what to buy? I really need a microwave and a phone for the new house...as retro as possible of course, but still not that fun. I really want a Heywood Wakefield cocktail table or china cabinet, and $100 would take a nice chunk off that. I also need curtains like I mentioned. And I want a kitty clock for the kitchen like the one on your page. So many things to want. I think I will let you decide for me! How can I ever thank you? I had to get a $15,000 cashiers check today for escrow, so now I am broke, really broke.....this couldnt have come at a better time! Really, thank you thank you thank you. You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

    I think I love you.

    Yeah.

    I do.

    XOXO
