50's TV - ZORRO!

Walt Disney's Zorro! (don't forget that exclamation mark!) only ran from 1957-1959 but has become one of the most popular and collectible TV icons from those glory days of kid's tv programming.  Even though the series was aimed at little boys, I remember watching it avidly, due in no small part to the fact that Guy Williams was really really cute for an old guy.

As you can see from the sidebar, I am the proud owner of a complete set of Zorro! trading cards.  They are in beautiful condition, having been stacked and bound in a length of twine for the last 50 years.  I now have them encased in individual pockets on sheets made expressly for trading cards.  I also have two Zorro! comic books, in pretty poor condition.  The one shown here is #960.  On the inside cover we see that this is a Dell comic book published in 1958 and there's an exciting blurb: "Let us go back to the early days of Spanish California when a man in black rides for law and justice.  Feared and respected from Monterey to San Diego, this man is a friend to the innocent and poor . . . enemy to outlaws and men of greed . . ."

Of course we all know that Guy Williams was also the "Lost In Space" dad, which was another great role, but he was sure alot more sexy when he was whipping that sword around as Zorro!.

  2. I had no idea who he was until you mentioned Lost in Space. ;) I never knew that he had been Zorro. Not the same for those who grew up on the original I'm sure, but now we have Antonio Banderas....*sigh*

Fun that you have the trading cards and the comic books (even if they are in bad shape). I've got a couple of the Millie the Model comics from when I was a teenager. Probably purchased during the time that I was reading Archie. lol

  3. Have you checked outs Dad's Dish? (dadsdish.blogspot.com) He just posted on Zorro. I was 4 or 5 years old so I didn't think of Zorro as handsome...at that age your Dad is the only handsome guy in the world.

  4. What a nice set to have!! I adored trading cards as a kid (still do) and would love to have a set like this! We have an old Zorro hardcover illustrated storybook from the early 50's. I'm looking for a Zorro PEZ dispenser right now. There's usually several on ebay. Just waiting for the "right one" to be listed!

    AWESOME BLOG!!
